My last blog entry was about getting rid of old, expired beauty products. But...what can you do to extend the cosmetic lifespan of your perfectly good makeup?
Let's face it, beauty products are not cheap! Here are a few things you can do to ensure your makeup stays fresh for as long as (reasonably) possible.
Store makeup and beauty products in a cool, dry environment.
Always tightly screw on caps and lids of your products to ensure they do not dry out. Close compacts tightly so moisture does not seep into the product. For example, if you leave a mascara opened in a steamy environment, like your bathroom, bacteria will proliferate inside the mascara causing it to spoil and potentially give you an eye infection. Disgusting!
Don't expose makeup to extreme temperatures. A tough one living in Dubai! Makeup left in cars can soften and melt, thus changing the integrity of the formula. Sunlight can cause preservatives found in beauty products to perish quicker and perfumes and other liquid products to evaporate.
Wash your applicators, such as brushes and sponges, often to remove oils that can cause your products to break down.
Do not put wet brushes on a towel to dry. Doing so can cause mold to grow in the bristles. Eww!
When cleaning brushes, do not get the base of the brush (where the bristles meet the handle) wet. This can cause the glue on the brush head to disintegrate.
** One thing I also always do when I am finished with a product in a tube, is to cut the tube open in half and scoop out the leftover product.. Usually I can find enough product for 2 or 3 more uses!**
